Ceva Animal Health launches “The Guards of a Century” project to honor 100 years of Newcastle Disease resilience

24/02/2026

In 2026, the global poultry sector marks a milestone that is both scientific and symbolic: 100 years of fighting Newcastle Disease (ND). This centennial is not framed as the achievement of one company or one generation. Instead, it recognizes a century of progress built by the wider poultry health ecosystem—researchers, veterinarians, producers, laboratories, industry partners, and animal health teams—all contributing to stronger resilience over time.

To honor that shared legacy and reinforce preparedness for what comes next, Ceva Sante Animale has initiated a centennial project titled “The Guards of a Century.” The project is designed to bring together storytelling, science, and sector dialogue to recognize the people who have protected poultry health for a hundred years—and to underline the knowledge and discipline that must continue into the next century.

A project that puts the sector at the center

The core message of The Guards of a Century is deliberately inclusive: resilience is built collectively. “Guards” is not defined by a single logo or institution, but by responsibility—day-to-day work that improves ND control and strengthens preparedness.

Within the project narrative, that “guards” identity includes:

  • Scientific institutions and researchers advancing ND understanding and tracking its evolution
  • Veterinarians and technical teams translating science into field practice
  • Diagnostic laboratories and surveillance networks enabling early insight and informed response
  • Producers, integrators, and hatcheries implementing prevention and control under real-world constraints
  • Industry partners collaborating to raise standards and improve outcomes

Ceva Animal Health’s role in this story is framed as that of a leading poultry vaccine manufacturer and animal health company, delivering innovative hatchery vaccines and integrated solutions—positioning the hatchery as a central hub that brings stakeholders together, amplifies work already underway, and drives coordinated learning to strengthen remaining gaps.

Led by a long-time poultry professional

At the center of the initiative is Mustafa Seckin Sandikli, Global Poultry Director at Ceva Sante Animale, described as the project’s owner, originator, and executive lead. A veterinary medicine graduate of Ankara University (Turkiye), Sandikli brings more than 21 years of experience in poultry sales, marketing, and technical support, alongside 17 years in animal health, including experience with three global animal health companies such as Pfizer/Zoetis and MSD.

Content, science, and exchange

A key element of the project is a three-season mini-series (three episodes per season) that tells the ND story across time—linking historical context to today’s realities and future outlook. Alongside this, dedicated scientific meetings are planned to create space for expert exchange and shared reflection—emphasizing that resilience requires ongoing attention as disease pressures, production systems, and expectations continue to evolve.

Why the centennial matters

A hundred years into the ND journey, the project’s message is forward-looking: preparedness must keep evolving. The Guards of a Century presents the centennial as both tribute and reminder—progress in poultry health is built together, and the next chapter depends on shared standards, shared learning, and shared commitment.
