In a significant leadership transition, global animal health leader Zoetis has restructured its regional management. Hakan Eras, formerly General Manager of Zoetis Turkiye, has been appointed Vice President for Central Eastern Europe & Middle East (CEEME).
With a career spanning multiple leadership roles at Zoetis and extensive experience in both developed and emerging markets, Eras now oversees one of the company’s most diverse and fast-growing regions. In this exclusive interview with The Animal Economics, he shares his perspective on Zoetis’ global position, Turkiye’s strategic role, and the cultural foundations that underpin long-term success.
Congratulations on your new role. How do you see Zoetis’ global position in today’s animal health market?
“Zoetis continues to lead the global animal health market strongly into 2025. In the first quarter of this year, we achieved 9% organic revenue growth, which speaks volumes about our robust product portfolio and the customer-focused efforts of our field teams. In international markets—especially in Europe, the Middle East, and developing regions—we are seeing double-digit growth, confirming the effectiveness of our strategic investments and local-market-driven solutions.
Our innovation commitment is central to our success. We’ve earned the trust of both pet owners and veterinarians, not only through our products but also by investing in digital health tools and diagnostics that help veterinarians make faster, more accurate decisions.
Today, the global animal health market exceeds $60 billion, and Zoetis holds nearly one-sixth of that share. This is not just a financial achievement—it reflects our contribution to animal welfare, sustainability, and the veterinary profession, all driven by our scientific mindset and customer-centric culture.”
How would you assess Zoetis’ contribution to the development of Turkiye’s animal health sector?
“Zoetis has played a leading and transformative role in Turkiye for years. We’ve gone beyond being a product provider to becoming a true solution partner for the industry. Through strong collaborations with veterinarians, producers, and academia, we’ve supported both animal welfare and production efficiency.
Our technical advisory teams have made on-farm health management more scientific and sustainable. We also continue to invest in the future through training programs and academic partnerships. Our innovation-driven product range addresses the specific needs of both companion and livestock sectors in Turkiye, supported by digital tools that enable faster, more impactful decisions.
Turkiye is a strategic market for Zoetis, and we intend to deepen our investments to support the industry and public health goals even further.”
What are the key success drivers for Zoetis in the CEEME region?
“The CEEME region is highly dynamic, with diverse cultural, economic, and healthcare systems. Our strength lies in a scientific yet flexible approach that meets the unique needs of each market. We tailor our strategies and solutions to fit local priorities, which makes a significant difference in performance.
Behind this success is a highly committed team. Zoetis has a strong collaborative culture, and our people across countries work toward common goals with deep mutual respect. Our investments in talent development and teamwork are among our greatest assets. I will continue building on these values as we grow the region.”
With a new General Manager now in place in Turkiye, does this alignment strengthen Zoetis’ operations?
“Absolutely. I’m very pleased about this leadership transition. We’ve worked closely for many years, sharing the same vision and values. His strong leadership and field experience will significantly reinforce our growth strategy. Success is inevitable when there is trust, teamwork, and a shared vision.”
