“Despite everything, the sector is growing and will continue to grow”

09/06/2026

In a region shaped by geopolitical risks, economic volatility and fast-changing market conditions, animal protein production continues to grow. This was the central message from Alper Keskiner, Elanco Turkiye and Middle East Regional Director, during his interview following Elanco’s intestinal integrity event in Istanbul.

Keskiner said the meeting brought together more than 200 participants from 25 countries, creating a strong platform for technical knowledge, regional dialogue and long-term sector partnerships. He noted that the quality of the speakers and the data shared during the meeting provided important signals for the future of the region.

The operating environment is not easy. Keskiner referred to regional tensions involving Gaza, Lebanon, Israel and Iran, noting that such developments can affect business conditions, trade flows and market confidence. However, he emphasized that life and production continue. Poultry, ruminant and pet sectors continue to produce, grow and meet demand.

According to Keskiner, the long-term direction is clear: people will continue consuming meat, eggs and milk. Global protein demand is not decreasing; it is increasing. Temporary fluctuations may occur, but the need to close the protein gap will remain a strong driver of production.

He described Turkiye and the Middle East as one of the growth centers of this demand. Compared with Europe, the region is expanding more rapidly, supported by existing production gaps and rising demand. Turkiye, in particular, has strong potential due to its production quality, knowledge base and capacity to respond when export channels are fully open.

Keskiner also underlined the importance of Elanco’s team structure in the region. He said the company works with experienced, field-based teams, many of whom are veterinarians with strong expertise in intestinal integrity, animal health and performance management.

Beyond products, he said Elanco’s regional strength comes from trust, service and long-term cooperation. The company’s approach is not simply to sell, but to act as a solution partner for producers.

For The Animal Economics, this reflects a growing business model in animal health: value is created not only by the product portfolio, but by technical service, field presence and trust-based partnerships.

Keskiner’s final message to producers and partners was one of unity. In conditions that cannot always be controlled, the sector must focus on what it can do best: cooperate, remain resilient and continue producing efficiently.
