dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health has acquired full ownership of Verax, bringing the predictive farm analytics platform completely into its own technology portfolio after seven years of collaboration with personal health analytics company InsideTracker.
Verax combines blood-based biomarkers with machine learning and farm data to provide early-warning insights into animal health and production conditions. The platform is intended to help producers identify potential health, nutrition and husbandry challenges before visible clinical signs or substantial performance losses emerge.
The transaction gives dsm-firmenich control over the platform’s software development, data integration and future commercial direction. Three InsideTracker employees have also joined the animal nutrition and health business to support the transition and continued development of the system. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The two companies began developing Verax in 2019, adapting InsideTracker’s experience in human biomarker analytics and machine learning for use in animal production. dsm-firmenich said full ownership will allow the platform to be integrated more closely with its Precision Services ecosystem, covering functions from data capture and model development to farm-level advisory support
Although Verax has been developed primarily for poultry production, the business importance of the acquisition extends beyond a single production category. It demonstrates how animal nutrition companies are moving towards business models that combine physical products, scientific services, proprietary data and recurring digital decision support.
Owning the platform rather than operating it through a partnership could also give dsm-firmenich greater freedom to expand its analytical models, strengthen interoperability with other services and develop new commercial applications.
According to the company’s June 29 announcement, existing Verax customers will see no changes to service or platform support during the transition.
For the animal health economy, the acquisition highlights the rising strategic value of data ownership. As artificial intelligence becomes more closely integrated with farm management, control of the underlying datasets, algorithms and advisory infrastructure may become as commercially important as ownership of conventional nutritional products.
