Future-Proofing Veterinary Practices: Elanco’s “Clinical Business Management” Summit in Kyrenia Brings Insight and Innovation

14/05/2025

From communication to economics, the veterinary world meets for strategic reflection on the future of clinics and care.

From April 14 to 16, 2025, Elanco brought together leading veterinarians, clinic owners, and sector professionals in the scenic city of Kyrenia, for a deep dive into the evolving demands of veterinary business management. Held at the Cratos Premium Hotel, the “Clinical Business Management” summit offered not only a forum for continuing education but also a rare opportunity to discuss the strategic backbone of veterinary practice in a rapidly changing world.

Opening Doors to Dialogue and Strategy

Elanco Turkiye, Middle East, and North Africa Senior Director Alper Keskiner, kicked off the event with a message focused on innovation and resilience. “Elanco’s history is grounded in breakthrough ideas,” Keskiner stated. “And in Turkiye, the trust we’ve built within the veterinary community affirms that we’re not just a pharmaceutical provider—we’re a long-term partner.”

The emphasis on partnership and progress framed the entire event, which balanced practical tools with conceptual frameworks essential for future-proofing veterinary enterprises.

Building Trust, Setting Boundaries: The Human Element of Clinical Success

One of the summit’s most compelling sessions came from communications expert Müge Sözen Örs. Her talk, titled “The Art of Communication in Veterinary Clinics: Meeting in Trust,” was not just a presentation—it was a call to rethink how relationships are built and maintained in clinical settings.

Örs challenged attendees to abandon traditional hierarchies in communication and instead focus on “contribution-oriented dialogue.” According to her, meaningful communication begins with the question: “How can I contribute?” She emphasized that understanding one’s own needs and approaching others with curiosity—rather than judgment—forms the foundation of both patient and team satisfaction.

Of particular note was her perspective on boundaries. “There is no sustainable relationship where there are no boundaries,” she declared. In both personal and professional contexts, boundaries are often misunderstood as constraints. Örs reframed them as essential structures for trust, autonomy, and clarity. Without clearly defined emotional and operational boundaries, she warned, miscommunication and burnout are almost inevitable.

Digitizing Veterinary Brands: Modern Marketing in a Digital Age

Marketing strategist Mustafa Can took the stage next to shift the focus from interpersonal communication to the broader canvas of brand identity and visibility. His session, “Modern Marketing for Veterinary Clinics: Digital and Beyond,” offered practical steps for transitioning into digital-savvy operations—from social media engagement to targeted online advertising.

Can highlighted the changing expectations of pet owners, particularly among younger generations who prioritize online reviews, seamless digital interaction, and brand authenticity. “Veterinary clinics aren’t just healthcare providers,” he said. “They are brands—and the future of those brands lies in their ability to adapt to digital ecosystems.”

With real-world examples, Can illustrated how even small clinics could amplify their reach and impact by treating their services like a curated experience rather than a transactional appointment.

Economic Literacy for Resilient Clinics

The summit closed with a powerful session by economist Devrim Akyıl, whose talk “Financial Strategies: Global and Turkish Economic Trends” offered both caution and hope. In a detailed analysis, Akyıl walked attendees through the recent global economic headwinds and positioned Turkiye’s economy as one with notable adaptive strengths.

“Turkiye has weathered financial storms before,” Akyıl remarked. “Veterinary businesses, like any enterprise, need to develop financial foresight, diversify their strategies, and remain agile.” His session connected macroeconomic shifts to micro-level decisions, helping clinic owners understand how inflation, global supply chains, and regional policies could directly affect their operations.

Beyond Content: Building a Community of Forward Thinkers

While the event was dense with information, its real strength lay in the environment it cultivated—a safe, open space for veterinarians to share experiences, brainstorm solutions, and foster a sense of community.

Breaks between sessions, informal dinners, and interactive Q&As allowed for peer learning that extended beyond the formal program. “It’s rare to have this much brainpower in one room,” said one attendee. “But what’s even rarer is the openness and willingness to share.”

The Veterinary Future is Now

The Elanco Clinical Business Management summit proved that the future of veterinary medicine is not just about medical expertise—it’s about building smart, resilient, emotionally intelligent clinics that can thrive in an increasingly complex world.

By addressing communication, marketing, and economics in one cohesive program, Elanco provided a blueprint not only for surviving change but also for leading it. For many attendees, it wasn’t just a conference—it was a moment of transformation.
