HIPRA Highlights the Economic Value of Preventive Strategies in Poultry Health

08/07/2025

According to Hicham Fathi, Regional Technical & Marketing Manager for Poultry in Europe, CIS, Africa, and the Middle East at HIPRA, the economic sustainability of livestock production—especially poultry—hinges on a proactive, preventive health approach.

“Disease threats don’t only target poultry, they affect all livestock sectors, leading to devastating losses,” Fathi explained. For instance, the global cost of coccidiosis alone exceeds $14 billion, and when the burden of avian influenza is added, the scale of economic damage becomes staggering.

Fathi underlined that biosecurity is the cornerstone of disease prevention, followed by effective vaccination. But vaccination is not just about the product—it encompasses selecting the right vaccine, administering it correctly, and verifying the immune response.

HIPRA, known for its innovation in animal health, is expanding this preventive philosophy through its “digital health” services. These solutions are designed to help producers maximize the efficiency of vaccination and disease control programs.

The digital approach begins with the design of specialized medical devices to ensure accurate vaccine administration. These tools offer full traceability, generate detailed reports, and provide connectivity that allows for real-time monitoring and data sharing with farmers and veterinarians.

Diagnostic tools—such as serology, PCR, and bacteriology—also play a critical role, verifying not just the vaccine’s application but also its efficacy in triggering immune protection.

HIPRA’s commitment goes beyond poultry, developing similar digital and biological solutions for other livestock sectors as well. As Fathi emphasized, “Active prevention supported by technology and diagnostics is the key to a more sustainable and resilient animal production industry.”
