Menderes, Izmir | July 2025 – As part of its commitment to delivering “More Than Nutrition,” Nutrimoore (Phytobiotics TR) has continued its regional outreach with a highly focused scientific meeting addressing the increasing viral threats affecting ruminant herds in western Turkiye. The event was held at Omega Farm—one of the country’s flagship dairy operations—with the participation of Prof. Dr. Kadir Yesilbag, a leading virologist from Uludag University, and numerous veterinary professionals from the field.
The initiative spotlighted the economic and welfare impact of persistent and vector-borne viral diseases such as Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD), Bluetongue, and Akabane, particularly in the Aegean region, where climate conditions create a high-risk ecology for viral circulation.
“Infections like BVD don’t just cause congenital defects. They silently persist in the herd for years, causing long-term productivity and fertility losses,” emphasized Prof. Yesilbag during the session. He underlined the need for local strain surveillance and autogenous vaccine strategies, especially in the face of antigenic mismatch challenges in commercial vaccines.
Nutrimoore’s Ruminant Business Unit Country Sales Director, DVM Mahmut Insel, coordinated the meeting and stressed that sustainable herd health management must combine systemic immunization and gut-driven immunity strategies. Special focus was given to the role of microbiota integrity in immune modulation, with scientific evidence supporting the need to monitor Vitamin D3 levels to maintain colonic microbiome balance and intestinal barrier function.
Veterinarians attending the workshop, designed in a highly interactive “focus group” format, appreciated the practical emphasis on vaccination program revision, herd monitoring, and biosecurity planning.
“The workshop format allowed direct discussion and custom solutions for our herds,” said Dr. Behcet Kaptan from Kirkpinar Dairy.
“Hearing the field realities helped transform science into action,” added Dr. Abdullah Yilmazyigit of Omega Dairy.
Beyond information sharing, the session served as a platform for collaborative herd health planning, encouraging tailored immunization strategies and long-term disease prevention.
Nutrimoore reaffirmed its role as a science-based partner in the veterinary ecosystem, pledging continued support to regional stakeholders through targeted field education and problem-solving initiatives.
“Our mission goes beyond nutrition,” Insel concluded. “It’s about enabling veterinarians with the right knowledge to protect herd health—now and in the future.”
