“Think Like a Dermatologist”: Ashley Bourgeois Shares Clinical Insights at KLIVET Spring Congress 2025

14/05/2025

The KLIVET Spring Congress 2025, held on April 11–12 at the Rixos Tersane Hotel in Istanbul, brought together veterinarians from across Turkiye and beyond to explore this year’s theme: Obesity and Its Clinical Implications.

Organized by the Association of Veterinary Clinicians (KLIVET), the event marked a major milestone as the annual spring symposium officially transitioned into a full congress, offering a broader scientific program and expanded professional exchange.

Among the highlights of the congress was a presentation by Dr. Ashley Bourgeois, a renowned veterinary dermatologist from the United States. In her session, Dr. Bourgeois encouraged veterinary professionals to “think like a dermatologist” when approaching skin-related cases.

She focused on the increasing prevalence of food-related allergies and allergic dermatitis, offering practical advice on diagnosis, case management, and client communication. Her insights were particularly relevant within the broader context of the congress theme, as she touched on how obesity can complicate dermatological conditions in companion animals.

Following her presentation, we had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Bourgeois for an in-depth interview. We discussed the intersection of obesity and dermatology, clinical challenges faced by practitioners, and her impressions of Istanbul. Describing the city as “captivating,” she shared how warmly she was received and noted that she leaves Turkiye with truly positive memories.

The KLİVET Spring Congress successfully blended high-level scientific content with a strong sense of community, supported by leading industry partners and set against the backdrop of Istanbul’s unique charm.
