Held in Antalya between April 16–20, 2025, the 7th International Poultry Meat Congress (UBEK) brought together more than 1,100 participants from 33 countries, creating a major platform for scientific dialogue, sustainability practices, and innovation in the poultry industry. The event took place at the Titanic Deluxe Hotel Congress Center and attracted researchers, industry leaders, public officials, and NGOs.
In his opening remarks, Congress Chair Prof. Dr. Necmettin Ceylan of Ankara University emphasized poultry’s growing importance in global food security. “With the global population projected to reach 9.8 billion by 2050, poultry meat will play a vital role in ensuring safe and balanced nutrition,” he stated. Since 2015, poultry has become the most produced meat type worldwide, accounting for 40% of total meat output.
Turkiye has strengthened its position in this sector, increasing poultry meat production by 37% over the past nine years to reach 2.56 million tons, ranking 9th globally. In 2024, exports reached 452,000 tons. The sector is now setting ambitious export goals, with the European Union identified as a primary market. The recent approval of Beypiliç and Gedik Piliç for exports to the EU reflects the recognition of Turkiye’s compliance with international quality standards.
Prof. Ceylan also highlighted scientific and technological advancements behind the sector’s growth: “We’ve achieved measurable progress in areas such as feed efficiency, emission reduction, and animal welfare.” He reported a 20% improvement in leg health through targeted breeding initiatives.
Organized with the support of BESD-BİR (Turkish Poultry Meat Producers and Breeders Association), the congress featured 175 scientific papers, 20 invited speakers, and 19 thematic sessions. It is indexed in the CAB Abstracts database, further integrating Turkiye’s poultry sector with global research and trade ecosystems.
