World Buiatrics Congress President Highlights Türkiye’s Strategic Role in Global Cattle Health

01/07/2026

The President of the World Buiatrics Congress described the upcoming 33rd World Buiatrics Congress in Istanbul as a potentially defining gathering for the global cattle-health community.

The Congress is expected to bring together veterinarians, researchers, academics and livestock professionals to discuss bovine medicine, cattle production and the future of animal health across different production systems.

According to the Congress President, Türkiye offers a particularly relevant setting for such an event because of the diversity of its cattle sector. The country combines small-scale farming with large, industry-based livestock operations and precision-farming models.

“Türkiye is an example of how cattle medicine and cattle production can be developed and used as a livestock livelihood for people,” the President said.

Istanbul’s accessibility was also highlighted as a key factor behind the event’s importance. Its position as an international hub could enable participation from a wider range of countries, particularly from Africa and the Middle East, where professionals may have had fewer opportunities to attend previous World Buiatrics Congresses.

The President also underlined Türkiye’s epidemiological importance. Located at the intersection of Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa, the country sits along major trade and movement routes for animals and animal diseases.

This position makes Türkiye strategically important for disease surveillance and cross-border cooperation, particularly considering the potential movement of livestock diseases through trade.

“Istanbul and Türkiye are a bridge,” the President said, referring not only to the movement of animals and diseases, but also to scientific knowledge, culture and cooperation between regions.

Beyond its scientific programme, the Congress is expected to create a meeting point between academia and veterinary practitioners. The President noted that young professionals will have the chance to learn from more experienced cattle-health experts, while participants will be able to exchange practical experience and update their knowledge.

For the Congress President, the value of the event lies in its ability to bring different parts of the bovine-health ecosystem into the same room: practitioners, academics, young veterinarians and experienced professionals from across regions.

The 33rd World Buiatrics Congress in Istanbul is therefore positioned not only as a scientific gathering, but also as a platform for stronger international collaboration in bovine health and livestock production.
